"Herr Roman"

Hi Shela & Cliff,
Roman is doing so well. He is so precious. We are so happy with him and Vesper is very happy as well. As you know, we were nervous to see her reaction to him but she LOVES him. She licks him and plays with him and cuddles him. It's so cute. He is very smart. He already knows that when we go outside he needs to do his business and then he runs back to the door with Vesper. He copies her all of the time.

He had his Vet Check this morning...everyone loves him (how could you not?). I never ceases to amaze me how everyone thinks they are experts on the breed. A curious vet tech was asking about his coloring since they are used to seeing Vesper and another lady chimed in that "oh, he'll turn grey as he gets older," I politely corrected her :). But, everything went very well. He was 9 lbs 12 oz this morning. I also gave them the fecal sample for a check, just in case. Vesper had Coccidia when she was 7 weeks, but her stool was soft and runny and his is is solid and healthy looking so I don't expect anything to come back positive.

He is enjoying his first day at the office, although Jordan isn't getting much done :).

I have attached some cute pictures of them playing, of Roman on the drive home, and of Roman with his food sprinkles on his nose after eating...he is so cute.

Anyway, Thank you so much again for everything. It was very nice being able to visit with you and Cliff in person and seeing your weim family.

I'll talk to you soon,

Amy (11/05/2007)

Breeder's Note:  Coccidia is a parasite that can infect your puppies intestine and cause serious diarrhea and even death in a young puppy if left untreated.  We recommend you get a fecal exam to ensure your pup doesn't have parasites or any kind.  There are several common parasites that a pup can easily pick up even in a clean and well maintained setting.
As Amy commented, the stool is nice looking and that is a good indication that pup is parasite free and their system is working well.
Hi Shela & Cliff,

1st off--It was so fun reading the updates for Roman's littermates :). I just love how you make that available, it's really great.

I attached a picture of Vesper (below and left you can see that picture) after her first ever hunting trip. Jordan is all excited now about hunting. We have some pheasant wings that we are letting the dogs sniff and play around with. He is really excited for when Roman is big enough to get out in the field as well.

Ves did well for her first time out we think. She didn't point any birds yet but she was very obedient and had a blast. She crossed well. Jordan went out with his uncle Bud and his cousins Luke and Blake that you met, and Sage their Brittany. Sage is becoming quite the bird dog as well. They all went to a hunting reserve with pheasants and chukar. I think next time I may go along just to observe, i can't wait to see my dogs point and flush!  The guys who run the reserve have German Wirehaired Pointers...they were commenting on how pretty Ves is...I can't wait for them to see Roman!

Roman continues to do well, he is really doing great with potty training. We can't even believe how good, especially since Vesper wasnt' completely potty trained until about 6 months old, it was a nightmare with her. He is such a cuddle-bug, he LOVES to be held...i don't know what he will do when he is 70+ lbs! He'll just come sit by our feet and give out a little cry, and if that doesn't work he'll paw at our legs.

Anyway, I hope you enjoy the picture!

Hi Shela & Cliff,

We are house sitting at Jordan's parents house this week for them to watch their dogs (Inge, a 12 year old German Shorthiar; and Hans, a 6 year old Doberman). They live on 10 treed acres so Vesper LOVES it out there plus she loves Hans, they play constantly. Roman's likes to sniff around and explore the new smells and chase after the big dogs. He's not a fan of the cold, and I can't blame him. This morning there was a dusting of snow and was 23 degrees so he was anxious to get back in the bed with us. :)

I appreciate all of the helpful information about exercise. I spent some time researching this information when we got Vesper. I was worried about hurting her joints but also wanted to make sure she got all the exercise she needed. With Roman it is much easier to make sure he gets enough because he and Vesper play. We just have to watch them because sometimes when he is done playing she isn't yet and she will pester him.

I have been taking time out to walk him on his lead around the house and teach him to sit. We don't teach the "stay" command, but rather teach the dogs that when they are given a command that they must remain in position until given the "free" command. He is doing very well. He has a great desire to please his masters. He fetches fairly well now. We are so happy with him. He has such a loving and cuddly demeanor. The funniest thing happens when he is cold...the end of his tail with poof out into a bittle poof ball...we call him lion tail. I need to capture this on camera for you!

Anyway, have a great day and a great and Blessed Thanksgiving.

Hi Shela & Cliff,

How are you? I hope you are doing well. Roman had his 12 wk checkup and shot today. It was cold this morning so he wore his little blue fleece coat to the vet's office. Everyone thought he was so cute. He weighed in at 18.4 lbs today. He is all legs too! We actually had an incident this week with the dogs...apparently when they were playing the other morning Roman must have scratched Vespers eye (actually the tissue around her eye) and her eye got all swollen, red and pussing. We took her in to the vet to make sure the eyeball wasn't hurt, she was okay. They gave her a cone to wear so she wouldn't scratch at it and as soon as we left Vesper and Roman alone, Roman had chewed through the plastic cone and freed his big sister. I was upset the cone was ruined but I was also pretty funny. When I saw what had happened they were both just ecstatic and playing together. Goofy dogs. Anyway, I just wanted to make sure you had Roman's weight for the web page.

I'll talk to you soon!

Wow, Benton is a BIG boy! Roman is smaller than Vesper was at 12 weeks but I am quite fine with a slower growth rate. Ves was 23lbs at 12 weeks, she is getting to be a big girl. When we brought her in to the vet last week she weighed 63 lbs. We will be doing our holiday card photo this weekend as long as the snow sticks, it makes for a prettier picture. I know you are busy there...I will be happy when we get a new camera so I can take more photos again. I have a couple I will send you that we snapped at the office with the office camera. They are just us playing with the dogs throughout the work day.

I'll talk to you soon.
God Bless,

Here is a photo from our trip to the "North Pole" today for the dogs to have their 1st photo with Santa. Neither Vesper or Roman were too keen on Santa.
Anyway, thought you would enjoy!

Merry Christmas!!!
