Hello and Welcome to our Puppy Pages.....

For the last several years we have created a Web Page for nearly every OwyheeStar puppy.  Some owners stay in touch more often than others.  As time has rolled on we have found ourselves dreadfully behind in posting updates.

For this and a few other reasons we are going to change our approach to posting updates.  As we now have an OwyheeStar Blog ( http://owyheestar.wordpress.com/ ) we are going to start posting many of the notes and pictures we receive on our Blog.  Then in lieu of trying to post everything here, you will find a page for each up pup with links to the updates (posted directly on our OwyheeStar Blog).  We believe this will expedite getting things updated in a more timely manner.

Over the years we have enjoyed creating these pages for each puppy.  It is fun for all of us to follow their happenings.  Sometimes unfortunate things happen.  Recently, we have posted several unfortunate Blogs on ingested items. These links (when pup specific) will also appear on their pages.

Since we are just beginning this journey (early 2010), our goal is to have the update completed by early spring or summer. Most of the current puppy pages will have a makeover.  Although we would like to write each person a personalized note about their pup's page it may not happen due to time constraints.  If you do not receive a note please do not take it personally--we value you more than you will ever know!  We just may not be able to accomplish everything that we set out to do!

We hope each of you will contact us sometime in the next year at your convenience.  As well as making these changes and other Website changes on our primary website, we have added a mailing service.  Most services limit the number of Emails you can send during a day.  They also limit the number of Emails you can send in a single Email.  This makes the process of writing all of our clients, prospective contacts, and other Weimlovers arduous.  With this new service we can drop you all a quick note anytime.  You will find that there is an opt out feature or if you write us and ask we can remove your name from the mailing list at any time.

On the otherhand if you wish to subscribe to our blog there is a link on the OwyheeStar Blog on the upper left hand side.  Some people prefer to get all the information.  If you are a visitor, thanks for dropping by and let us know if there is something we can help you with or questions we might be able to answer.  In closing, we apologize for any disorder you might find when searching through the Website.  We will clear up these housekeeping issues as soon as possible.  If you find a broken link on any Website or the The Blog please let us know where you saw it and we will get it repaired ASAP.  Thanks for your time and consideration...

Celebrating of Love of Weims....

Note:  Below you will find listed all the females that have produced a puppy. Some produced many over a period of years in their prime and others not so many. Regardless, each was cherished and appreciated!

We normally mate starting around their second birthday. We believe in waiting becaue until they are grown, they need all their nutrition for the thier own growth and well being. There are also health screenings and training considerations.  These take place during the early development period.

Once they reach two years of age we can opt to attempt a mating.  If we do mate them, we don't always get a litter.  Sometimes they are three years old by the time they produce a first litter. Some females will produce easily until they are seven years old, other are done about five. Some produce larger litters.  Some are timely in their seasons. Some produce only a few pups in their entire breeding career.  Below we have listed everyone.  As we stated above those females listed on the left hand navigation bar are currently considered an option for a future mating or have recently had a litter of pups.  Below we list everyone--or that is our goal.  Should you find an error (or more likely an omission) please Email us and let us know.  Links sometimes break or diappear.  Sometimes we get sidetracked and forget to complete edits and whatnot.

At the time of this Website overhaul (spring 2010) we have many females approaching retirement and still listed on the left-hand navigation bar.  Some of these females will most likely never produce another litter.  Therefore, if you are searching through trying to find a potential mother keep in mind they might be nearing the end of their career.  Check with us about the likelihood or possibility of certain matings happening.  Regardless, we have taken ever step we can to try to save our various genetic pools of DNA and various traits for the future. Each lineage had choice ancestors that we chose just for that purpose.

As we write we also have many young females that are up-and-coming and should begin to produce as the faithful and current favorites are moved to retirement.  That brings up concerns about their futures.  They have given us all so much and we owe them a good future.  Various things happens as we retire females.  Some will remain here at OwyheeStar for the entirity of their life; but a few will find a retirement home.  For example:

  • Dee retired to Montana with a gentleman who had time for her everyday.  She went to work with him and he and her hunted in the evenings.  She passed on a few years back but her latter days were probably golden in many ways.
  • Dottie retired from OwyheeStar to become granddads best friend and constant companion. She spends her time around the farm, This includes trips down the road to the river daily with him on their 4 wheeler.  Since she lives next door, she makes a point to tantalize everyone here about her primo status.
  • Penny retired to Montana with a clients elderly father.  She is again his constant companion.  He loved his son's Weimaraner but in truth could never keep up with a Weimaraner pup.  Penny has the life of luxury and a special trainer to help her adjust to new situations.  She is thriving.  The son has written if ever his father isn't able to keep Penny that they will add Penny to their fold.  They have moved to a farm. They too love Penny and those that have a pup from her can understand why!
  • Megan had a retirement placement for a season but was returned here.  She lives on here seemingly not caring about being returned.  The family loved her but were unable to keep her.

Although we will consider placing some of the retirees, we are rather picky about retirement placements.  Any time a second home is considered we try to make even more effort to ensure that they have every opportunity to suceed and thrive.  If you are reading this and feel you might be a candidate for an OwyheeStar retiree feel free to write us and ask if we have any candidates.  Getting an older Weimaraner who is set in their ways can be challenging.  All our Weims are crate trained so that is a plus.  All sleep in a crate all night with no problems.  Most spend considerable time out but only in secure areas -- on concrete and with fencing (unless they are out for an extended run on the lawn or around the farm with Cliff).  Most would not be great left to their own wiles in the backyard per say.  Some might be OK if you had another hunting dog and they shared an outdoor kennel with them on occasion.  Scenarios vary from Weim to Weim.  In truth, most Weims do not thrive in those situations and we are not wanting to put our retirees out to pasture.  We would need to consider the well-being and potential placement carefully to see if you are a good match.  Now having said all that, we dont' have that many available older Weims (returns or retirees) at this time.

Final note:  At this time (spring 2010) we have not updated the retired Weim's (Dee, Dottie, Megan, etc) puppy pages.  It is certainly our goal to remake all of them like we have the pups born to our active females, however, the process is somewhat time-consuming.  As opportunity affords we hope to update those pages as well.  Thank You for your patience on this matter.
